Election to be held Tuesday
For commission seat
By Diana Royal Staff Writer

Two men will be up for election of the District 1 seat on the Burke County Board of Commissioners next Tuesday, June 19.

Lucious Abrams Jr., 53, a businessman and farmer, and S. Ronald Reed, 63, a self-employed cattle farmer, both qualified for the special election back in April.

Neither man has held public office, although Reed has previously attempted to gain a commission seat.

Poles will be open 7 a.m.-7 p.m. at the following precints: fire station #6, Gough; fire station #3, Keysville; old city hall, Midville; fire station #9, Munnerlyn; fire station #8, Scotts Crossroads; Boggs Rural Life Center, St. Clair; and City Hall, Vidette.

Whoever wins the election will have to run again in the state primary in July 2008 for a full four-year term. The winner will replace veteran commissioner Woodrow Harvey who died in February.
