Time to sign up for wildlife incentives Landowners have until midsummer to sign up for Project WINGS 2007 - USDA- Natural Resources Conservation Service's wildlife incentive program. According to district conservationist Cread Brown, Project WINGS is a cost-share program administered by NRCS and Two Rivers RC&D to promote the establishment and maintenance of wildlife habitat on utility rightsof way. In the last decade, Project WINGS has provided more than $2.1 million in private grants to more than 2,200 participants. To date, nearly 15,000 acres of land have been converted into productive wildlife habitat through the program. Contracts are based on threeyears of participation with a maximum payment of $1,500 per participant. Individuals and groups interested in participating may sign up anytime before July 15 by visiting the NRCS office at the Burke County Office Park in Waynesboro or by calling 706-554-5183 ext. 3. |
