Divas of Excellence

The Miss Black Burke County steering committee will hold a Divas of Excellence Tea noon Saturday, June 9, at the Burke County Library.

Girls, ages 16-22, who are interested in learning more about the 2007 Miss Black Burke County Pageant, are invited.

The attire is "dressy divas."

Peace Program

Northwest Services (NWS) Peace Program is looking for families to host high school students, 15-18 years of age, from various countries for the 2007- 08 school year. All the students are prescreened: they speak English, have medical insurance and their own spending money.

Experience is not necessary as an orientation and support will be provided.

Consortium meeting

Enterprise Community Healthy Start will hold a consortium meeting 1-3 p.m. Friday, June 22, at the Burke County Library meeting room.

Guest speaker will be Beoncia Loveless, program coordinator, board certified medicolegal death investigator, who is a member of the GBI's Child Abuse Investigative Support Center team.

Genealogical society

The Burke County Genealogical Society will hold its annual meeting 6 p.m. Monday, June 11, at Neely Grove CME Church. This will be a covered dish supper. The speaker will be Thomas Reynolds.

The public is invited.

Diabetic teaching

A public service of diabetic teaching will be available at Burke Medical Center 6-8 p.m. Thursday, June 14.

Limited space is available. Call Pansy Agerton in the dietary department at 706-554-4435.

Those who attend are encouraged to bring their partner or person who does their food preparation.

Frog jumping contest

A frog jumping contest will be held at the Burke County Library 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 8.

First National Bank will give $50 to the child with the fastest frog from the age group 1-7, and $50 to the overall winner from the 8-12 group.

Poetry group

The poetry group will meet 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 12, at the Burke County Library.

Discussion will center on Father's Day, Flag Day, June brides and graduation.
