Athletes honored at banquet

Edmund Burke Academy held its annual spring sports banquet last Tuesday to honor athletes participating in baseball, track, golf and tennis. Members of the Lady Spartans basketball team who earned special recognition were, from left, Kasey Land, Most Improved and All-Region; Kitty Pierson, Christian Character award; Kayla Milligan, Coach's Award; Kris Lovett, Best Defensive Player; and Katie Kittrell, Most Valuable Player and All-Region. Receiving awards for boys basketball were, from left, front row: Jaymie Elliott, Most Improved; and Boyd Lively, Best Rebounder and All-Region; and standing: Bernie Smith, Best Defensive Player; Jeremy Hayes, Best Offensive Player and All-Region; and Kyle Wilson, Best Work Ethic. Members of the girls track team receiving awards were, from left, Ashley Bowman, High Points (field events); Kitty Pierson, Coach's Award; and Kasey Land, High Points (running events) and Most Valuable Player. From left, Daniel Mobley, Bernie Smith and Jeremy Hayes were all named All-State in golf. The Spartan golf team finished as both the Region 2-AA and state runner-up. Jeremy Hayes received the High Points for running events in track. Not pictured is Matt McDaniel, who received the High Points award for field events. Receiving awards for tennis were Jenny Jenkins, Most Improved; Amy Bunn, Most Valuable Player; and Katie Kittrell, Best Attitude. Members of the boys tennis team receiving special awards were Jesse Neidlinger, Best Attitude; Davison Hogan, Most Valuable Player; and Jim Sandeford, Most Improved.
