Middle school students honored

Burke County Middle School's annual awards program on May 14 honored those students who had made outstanding academic achievements during the school year. Leading the program were the highest academic average achievers.
Academic Excellence Awards were given to the student on each team with the highest average in each core subject. Those students receiving mathematics awards were Dylan Thomas, Dalton Hunter, Reuben Roberts, Shaquille Scott, Joleshia Cooper, James Looper, Ashley Free, Melissa Kitchens, Sequoin Dixon, Nicholas Bostic, Hillary Frazier, Douglas Jenkins and Brendan McManus.
Algebra awards were earned by Elizabeth Quick, Diamond Herrington and Sade Williams. Cannon McClain and Taylor Martin received pre-algebra awards.
Language Arts awards went to Corley Jordan, Nancy Long, Dalton Hunter, Dylan Thomas, Taylor Martin, Tanner Walker, Jeffery Gilchrist, Sarah Hutto, Nicholas Bostic, Sade Williams, Elizabeth Quick and Cassandra Wagner.

Students receiving science awards were Nancy Long, Dalton Hunter, Corley Jordan, Kalee Jones, Cannon McClain, Hank Burke, Taylor Martin, Nadine Berrian, Sade Williams, Julius Lewis, Jalessa Jenkins and Elizabeth Quick.
The highest averages in Social Studies were earned by Dalton Hunter, Robert Webster, Nancy Long, Jesse Flake, Dakota Wiersma, Taylor Martin, Carla Palmer and Cannon McClain. Georgia History awards went to Jessica Ann Reid, Sade Williams, Cassandra Wagner and Elizabeth Quick.

Best All Around eighth-graders were Haley Taylor, Jessy Summerford, Meghan Purdie, Hershel Ogelsby, Andrew Thomas, Ashley Hillis, Brittney Kent, James Casarez, Chandler Mooney, Savia Fryer, Chaujetha Brown, Shelby Cardin, Trisdon Manson, Katherine Carey, John Carswell, Isadore Harold, Michael Purdie, Lena Scott, Darryl Richbourg, Chad Mooney, Kiara Lewis, Shamonica Freeman, Nia'Jay Sheard, Keara Williams, Carla Palmer, Douglas Jenkins, Devin Johnson, Nickalas Blackstone, DeWoun Griffin, Balissa Conner, Rasheda Cobb, Elizabeth Quick, Shantavious Webb and Char'De Washington.
Kalee Jones and Jashud Miller were recognized for having 250 Accelerated Reader points. Sade Williams was recognized for having earned 500 Accelerated Reader points.
Chorus certificates were awarded to eighth graders with outstanding participation. Those students receiving certificates for outstanding participation for three years were Silveyer Bell, Haley Bowen, Intoria Coleman, DaonQuez Drisdon, Ashley Ellison, Tamra Eyers, Breanna Habersham, Charity Jones, Kiara Lewis, Derek Llamas, Harley Miller, Alexandra Preston, Elizabeth Quick, Morgan Quick, Brianna Roberson, Jessica Roberts, Bradley Sowell, Heather Wells, Keiah Wesby, Curneshia White and Montrell Williams. Outstanding participation for two years went to Jasmine Ealey, Montana Hoover and Diamante Seymour.
Band awards were presented to the Most Outstanding and Most Improved members of each section, along with the Director's Award given to Crystal Cummings. Named as Most Outstanding Brass were Bobby Gay, Sean Sims and Zak Kelley. Most Outstanding Percussionists were Megan Moore, Kevin Bell and Roydell Jeffers. Most Outstanding Woodwinds were Ashley Taylor, Laaiquah Abrams and Jenice Brown. Most Improved Brass were Jazzlin Sharpe, Verenzo Scott and Emily Wood. Most Improved Percussion went to Benjamin Ford, Emanual Bedford and Derwin Williams. Most Improved Woodwind was earned by Treneishyia Phillips, Latia Jones and Hillary Frazier.
Morning News certificates were awarded to Caylan Key, Dalton Hukowski, Michaela Holder, Melinda Holder, Taylor Martin, Briana Prince, Cera Collins and Daonquez Drisdom.
Flag Patrol certificates were earned by Jordan Johnson, David Lowe and Evan Holder.
Students who made the honor roll each six weeks also received certificates. Students who qualified for the Duke TIP program were Cannon McClain, Hunter Baxley, Michaela Carter, Kierra Collins, Daniel Douglas, Jeffery Gilchrist, Ben Huddleston, Taylor Martin, Carla Palmer, Crystal Pignotti, Sean Sims, Ashea Whitfield and Swanteshiaya Wilson.
Desmond Stone and Jacquez Harmon were recognized for having perfect attendance from kindergarten through the eighth grade. Raymond Anthony, Heather Grunewald, Jacquez Harmon, Dezmond Stone, Deonta Osborne and Shannkera Coleman were recognized for having perfect attendance from the sixth through the eighth grade.
Top awards went to the three students who had earned the highest academic average in their grade: Dalton Hunter for sixth grade; Taylor Martin, seventh; and Elizabeth Quick, eighth.
