Mrs. Joie 'Emma' Allen Mrs. Joie "Emma" Allen, 89, died Saturday May 26, 2007, in Dublin, Ga. Her funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, May 28 at Lakeland United Methodist Church in Lakeland. She is preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Eugene Allen. She served by his side as he pastored churches throughout the South Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church. She was a talented artist who drew pictures for the cover of the church bulletins. She also contributed by baking cakes, making candy, sewing items for the church bazaars, making jelly and growing flowers for the 45 years that she was married to the pastor. The Allen's last full-time appointment was Lakeland United Methodist Church. Because they loved the community so much they retired there in 1985.She was known all her life by her childhood nickname, "Emma." She continued to live there until September 2006 when she moved to Dublin. Mrs. Allen was the daughter and the youngest child of the late James William and Joie Yates Brown. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Stewart Davis Brown. She is survived by a daughter, Dahlia Allen Wren of Dublin; a granddaughter, Vonnie Wren (Danny) Angelo; grandson, Stuart (Stephanie) Wren; and six great grandsons, Jakob and Jordan Wren, Cole and Daniel Angelo, Justin Caldwell and Jarrod Jernigan all of Macon; three sisters-in-law, Reba Allen Evans of Sylvania, Virginia Allen Daniel of Savannah and Juanita Allen (Wilmer) Burns of Newington; and several nieces and nephews. The Revs. Dale Thornton, Rich Wright and Charles Cox officiated. Pallbearers were Stuart Wren, Danny Angelo, Sherrill Wren, Loyd Shaw, John Fitton and J.C. Browning. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Lakeland United Methodist Church, 340 W. Main St., Lakeland GA 31635.
