Cars under the stars
Lots of local youngsters stayed up late Saturday night to watch "Cars" under the stars at the Waynesboro city park. According to organizers, around 250 parents and children spread out blankets for the first flick in this year's Movies Under the Stars series. The movie was sponsored by Mizell Ford and presented by the Downtown Organization of Retailers (DOOR). Thanks to Samson's Manufacturing, the fun will continue this Saturday night with a 1987 dance classic that put "Time of My Life" and "She's Like the Wind" on the top of the music charts. The show will start at dark, but moviegoers are encouraged to come at 7:30 p.m. to cut the rug. Admission to the PG13 film is $1, and children under 14 will not be admitted without a parent. Several non-profits will be on-site raising money for their causes. Popcorn and candy sales will benefit DOOR; hamburger and hotdog sales will benefit the EBA prom committee; soft drink, float and ice cream sales will benefit the Old Fella Animal Rescue; and glow necklace sales will benefit Burke Community Partnership. In case of inclement weather, the movie will be rescheduled for June 16.
