Mrs. Josie Sikes Durden Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary of Swainsboro announces the death of Josie Sikes Durden of Midville at University Hospital in Augusta after an extended illness. Graveside services were held Sunday, May 20 at 1:30 p.m. at Midville City Cemetery with the Rev. Bucky Kennedy and the Rev. Leonard Quick officiating. A loving wife, mother, grandmother (Meme) and greatgrandmother, Mrs. Durden was a native of Burke County. She retired from University of Georgia Southeast Experiment Station. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Midville. She loved family, fishing & loved to read. She was preceded in death by her son, Randall Durden. Survivors include her husband, Gene Durden of Midville; a daughter and son-in-law: Sherry and David Simmons of North Augusta, S.C.; a son and daughter-in-law, Timothy Gene and Cheri Durden of Buford, Ga.; a daughter-in-law: Kaye Durden; a sister, Pearl Braswell of Midville, Ga.; a brother, Minus Sikes Jr. of Midville, Ga.; seven grandchildren, Chris and Brandy Rutland, Rick and Monnie Jackson, Devin Durden, Christian Durden, Deanna Simmons, Coby Durden and Danielle Durden; four greatgrandchildren, Dylan Jackson, Jackson Rutland, Brayden Rutland and Callie Jackson; a special caregiver and close friend, Pat Smith of Midville, Ga. Pallbearers were Jeff Bunn, Steve Bunn, Carey Cobb, Bob McNeil, Tommy Roberson and Virgil Choats. Visitation was Saturday from 6-8 p.m. at Peebles-Curry- Durden Mortuary. Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary was in charge of arrangements for the funeral of Josie Sikes Durden of Midville |
