Plant Vogtle to simulate emergency attack today

Emergency response vehicles may be seen rushing about Burke County today (Wednesday) as Plant Vogtle conducts an emergency preparedness exercise.

The nuclear generating plant is simulating a security attack that would overwhelm Burke County, according to spokesperson Carol Boatwright. The simulated security attack will require assistance from Richmond County and South Carolina agencies, as well as the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and Federal Bureau of Investigation.

"We are trying to test the ability of agencies who will respond to work together in such emergencies," Boatwright said.

Approximately 500 participants from various agencies are expected to participate in the drill, which will take place at the plant.
