Home at last
The journey has finally ended for a three-legged stray from Burke County. Anna finished her 16-day cross country trip Saturday morning when RVer Fred Golden, left, of California handed her over to her new owners Ryan and Elizabeth Eaton, pictured with their dog Misty Jo. Anna was put up for adoption earlier this year after she was hit by a car on Highway 56. A local family nursed Anna back to health and cared for her until the Eatons, who live nearly 3,000 miles away in Spanaway, Wash., offered to adopt her. Beginning May 3, RVers from across the country joined together to transport Anna all the way from Waynesboro to Spanaway. "It's like a miracle," said Richard Daniels, chairman of Old Fella Animal Rescue. "It shows us so much about compassion." Anna's journey has been covered by local news stations all along her route, and Daniels says specials for NBC and Animal Planet are in the making.
