Developers donate to Georgia Land Trust Georgia Land Trust (GLT) acquired its first protected lands in Burke and Richmond counties when developers David Hogan and Steve Blackburn donated a 112-acre easement. The land, which runs along both sides of McBean Creek, supports a variety of bottomland hardwoods. According to an article printed in GLT's spring issue, "the importance of these remnants of bottomland forest as habitat can't be overstated with the region having lost, by some estimates, over three quarters of these forests between 1954 and 1974." GLT officials also say the donation will help protect the Savannah River since McBean Creek is a tributary. Hogan and Blackburn, who both live in Waynesboro, recently opened a 390- acre development, The Ridge, in northern Burke County. |
