Waynesboro teen charged with rape
By Elizabeth Billips Associate Editor

A Waynesboro teenager was arrested for breaking into a 12- year-old's bedroom and raping her.

The victim's mother told deputies that Kenard Dukes, 16, broke in through her daughter's bedroom window around 2 a.m. Friday.

According to a report filed at the Burke County Sheriff's Office, he allegedly called the girl to the window, then threw her down and covered her mouth.

Dukes went out through the front door, the mother said, and fled on a bicycle that belonged to the victim's brother.

Shortly thereafter, deputies found him riding the bicycle along Highway 24.

Dukes is charged with rape and burglary.

(Editor's note: Under the Georgia Open Records Act, the name of a juvenile may be disclosed if he/she is charged with any one of 25 felony crimes, including rape.)
