Students recognized at EBA Honors Day

Amanda Teague awarded the Burke Medical Center Auxiliary Scholarship to Ashley Memory.
Students at Edmund Burke Academy were recognized during the school's annual Honors Day program Friday, May 11, for their work throughout the school year, and several seniors received scholarship awards.

April McDaniel received the Valedictory Award, and the Salutatory Award was presented to Ashley Memory.

McDaniel also received the English Award, Composition Award, Social Studies Award, Science Award, Math Award and Computer Award. She was recognized for participating in the Prudential Spirit of the Community Awards and was presented with scholarships from the United States Marine Corps, 4-H Club, First National Bank, Master Gardeners and the Watson Brown Foundation.

She was chosen as "Youth of the Year" by the Waynesboro Exchange Club, who presented her with a $1,500 scholarship, and was recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Competition for her high score on the PSAT.

Memory also received a number of scholarships including the James D. Smith Rotary Scholarship, the Burke Medical Center Auxiliary Scholarship and a scholarship from the Waynesboro Exchange Club.

Matt Brinson of Planters EMC presented a scholarship to Kitty Pierson.
Casey Corley and Whitney Franks were also recipients of Exchange Club scholarships.

Franks was also awarded scholarships from the Master Gardeners, Burke County Cattleman's Association and the Watson Brown Foundation.

Kitty Pierson received a scholarship from Planters EMC.

Ben Blackburn was named the DAR Good Citizen by the Edmund Burke Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. He also received a scholarship from the Georgia Pest Control Association.

The United States Marine Corps also presented awards to Amy Bunn and Chad Smith for their athleticism.

Bunn and Brandon Hamilton received the U.S. Army Reserve National Scholar/Athlete Award.

Burke County Women in Business presented a scholarship to Amy Bunn, and Southern Bank also presented a scholarship to Casey Cox.

Bunn also received the Composition Award, and Carrie Newton, the Computer Award.

April McDaniel was named "Youth of the Year" by the Waynesboro Exchange Club, and Rick Marsh presented her with a scholarship. Also receiving Exchange Club scholarships were Casey Corley, Whitney Franks and Ashley Memory.
Kim Dixon was recognized for her participation in the Hugh O'Brian Youth (HOBY) Leadership Conference, and Caroline Collins, Carrie Newton and Cory Saxon were also recognized for their RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) participation.

Missy Jones received the Woodmen of the World Award.

Spanish I honors went to Wilson Blanchard, and top honors for Spanish II went to Emily Anne Bunn.

Bunn was selected as Student of the Year from EBA for the Flair Honor Society, and other students recognized by Flair were Katie Atkinson, Ashley Bowman, Kim Dixon, Kristy Hurst, Jami Hosch, Missy Jones, Michelle Luck, Sarah Mead, Kayla Milligan, Kathryn Prevatte and Jim Sandeford.

Physical Education awards were presented to Daryn Collins and Tyler Rowland, while Heather Hodges, Sydney Hutcheson, Lauren Scott, Jennie Vandenbulcke and Stephen Wilson all received art awards.

Gerald Murray of the Master Gardeners presented scholarships to April McDaniel and Whitney Franks.
Girls trio members, Hannah Harkins, Allie Lewis and Cory Saxon, were honored for finishing as runner-up in the state literary competition, and Jena Palmer and Stephen Wilson were recognized for their literary participation in piano and boys solo, respectively.

Whitney Dixon, Lily Hammett, Ryan Kent, Wyatt Meadows and Zach Tant were recognized as Elementary Music Students of the Year. Certificates of appreciation were received by Alex Clemens, Garrett Dixon and Stevie Seay.

Drama awards were presented to Corey Anderson, Kasey Land, John Manley, April McDaniel, Jena Palmer, Kathryn Prevatte and Chad Smith.

Receiving service awards were Brandon Hamilton, Brett Jenkins and Kris Lovett for their assistance in the office; Zach Cowart, Will Edenfield, Jayme Elliott, Corey Hudson, Chris Mangieri, Jesse Neidlinger, Chad Smith and Rebecca Woodward for assisting in the lunchroom; and Michael White for his library assistance.

Cpl. Marie Quisbert presented the U.S. Army Reserve National Scholar/Athlete Award to Amy Bunn and Brandon Hamilton.
Also recognized were teachers' aides Ashleigh Barefield, Ben Blackburn, Jessie Burch, Casey Cox, April Crouch, Kim Dixon, Whitney Franks, Hannah Harkins, Heather Hodges, Sydney Hutcheson, Kalea McDaniel, Emily Mizell, Jena Palmer, Anne Marie Raines and Lauren Scott.

Emily Robinson, Mallory Register and Lauren Chancey were recognized for being student tutors.

Journalism awards were presented to senior staff members Meagan Nix and Jessie Burch, editors, and Amy Bunn, Kasey Land, Kris Lovett, Carrie Newton and Jesse Neidlinger.

Caroline Collins was named as a PC Junior Fellow by Presbyterian College in Clinton, S.C. The University of Georgia presented the Georgia Certificate of Merit to Collins and Alyson Jenkins for ranking in the top 5 percent of their class. Both students also received certificates of academic achievement from Augusta State University.

Senior Amy Bunn was awarded a certificate and medallion from the National Society of High School Scholars.

April McDaniel received the First National Bank Leadership Scholarship from Nan Palmer.
The President's Award for Education Excellence was presented to seniors Corey Anderson, Amy Bunn, Whitney Franks, Brandon Hamilton, Kasey Land, Kris Lovett, April McDaniel, Ashley Memory, Carrie Newton, Meagan Nix and Jena Palmer; eighth-graders Cody Ashe, Amber Bowman, Ashley Chambers, Drew Cline, Dylan Hargrove, Hallie Murray and Wesley Oellerich; and sixthgraders Aaron Boland, Alex Clemens, Austin Daniel, Whitney Dixon, Dakota Garber, Kasie Hargrove, Beth Jenkins, Jessica Jenkins, Gray Lewis, David Mead, Wyatt Meadows, Seth Paulk, Stevie Seay and Clay Wilson.

The EBA 4-H Club was recognized as 4-H Club of the Year.

Avery Parker, Lauren Bragg and Amanda Bragg were recognized as top fundraisers for the American Heart Association.

Sixth-grader Seth Paulk was recognized for winning both the local and district levels for the "If I Were Mayor" essay contest.

J. D. Smith presented the James D. Smith Rotary Scholarship to Ashley Memory.
Certificates of Highest Honor were presented to students who maintained the highest average in their respective grades. Recipients were Jennifer McDaniel, seventh grade; Amber Bowman, eighth grade; Katharine Reeves, ninth grade; Michelle Luck, 10th grade; Caroline Collins, 11th grade; and April McDaniel, 12th grade.

Certificates of Highest Honor, for maintaining a 94.5 average or above, were presented to seventhgraders Dawson Atkinson, Logan Christian, Jake Marks, Haley Meeks and Matthew Price; eighthgrader Cody Ashe; freshmen Wilson Blanchard, Brooke Hargrove, Nelson Liu, Lacey Oellerich, Amy Perkins, Cody Robinson, Tyler Rowland, Carly Saxon and Kyle Wilson; sophomores Ashley Bowman, Emily Anne Bunn, Kim Dixon, Kristy Hurst, Sarah Mead and Jim Sandeford; junior Alyson Jenkins; and seniors Amy Bunn, Casey Corley, Kasey Land, Kris Lovett, Ashley Memory, Carrie Newton and Kathryn Prevatte.

Certificates of Honor, for an average of 89.5-94.4, were presented to Hunter Boyce, Amanda Bragg, Meredith Franks, Laura Johnson, Roy Mead, Claire Rives, Ashlee Smith, Dylan Smith, Jessica Story and Mitchell Thompson for seventh grade; Ansley Adams, Lauren Chancey, Drew Cline, Jake Evans, Dylan Hargrove, Hallie Murray and Wesley Oellerich, eighth; Tyler Jenkins, Nathan Kittrell, Laney Lewis, Taylor Meadows, Joseph Rudolph, Sammy Seay and Lyndsay Smith, freshman; Jeremy Hayes and Missy Jones, sophomores; Davison Hogan, Jennifer Jenkins, Krislyn Lee, Allie Lewis, Katie Kittrell, Jennifer Vandenbulcke and Michael White, juniors; and Ashleigh Barefield, Jessica Edwards, Whitney Franks, Brandon Hamilton, Meagan Nix, Jena Palmer, Kitty Pierson, Amy Smith and Chad Smith, seniors.

Amy Bunn received the Burke County Women in Business Council scholarship from Betty Black.
Whitney Dixon received special recognition for maintaining the highest average for elementary school.

Students recognized for maintaining an A+ average in elementary school were Aaron Boland, Beth Jenkins, Wyatt Meadows and Seth Paulk; and those with A averages were Alex Clemens, Austin Daniel, Dakota Garber, Kasie Hargrove, Gray Lewis, David Mead, Stevie Seay and Clay Wilson.

Kim Dixon was recognized by Jane DeLoach of Town and Country Woman's Club for her participation in HOBY.
Students receiving pins or recognition for perfect attendance were Mason Boswell and Hannah Palmer, K-4; John Waters (two years), first grade; Ragan Bailey (two years), Taylor Boswell, John Bragg and Karrie Kent (two years), second grade; Lindsey Blevins, Myers Clark, Bailey Lowe and Rachel Nix (two years), third grade; Neely Ann Mann (four years), Trent Moore (two years), Abigail Quick and Shelby Stewart, fourth grade; Ben Murray and Jonathan Reeves (seven years), fifth grade; Gray Lewis, sixth grade; Dawson Atkinson (three years), Hunter Boyce, Amanda Bragg (eight years), Dylan Smith and Anna Waters, seventh grade; Cody Ashe, Magan Bailey (four years), Amber Bowman (nine years) and Lauren Bragg (six years), eighth grade; Taylor Meadows (two years) and Ivey Stewart, ninth grade; Ashley Bowman (four years), Ross Daniel, Kristy Hurst, Kayla Milligan and Danielle Sapp, 10th grade; and Emily Graham (13 years), Jim Hopkins (11 years) and Katie Kittrell, 11th grade.
Betty Black presented the Southern Bank scholarship to Casey Cox.
Certificates of honor were awarded to these students.
Missy Jones received the Woodman of the World award for having the highest average in U.S. History.
Whitney Franks received the Burke County Cattleman's Association scholarship from Milo Hege.
Cindy Cope of the Burke County Extension Service presented April McDaniel with a scholarship.
These students received certificates of highest honor.
