During Burke County High School's ninth annual Honors Program, more than 106 scholars were recognized for excelling in individual subject areas and 35 scholarships were awarded.
Missy Barefield presented the Women in Business Scholarship to Mollie Mitchell. Julie Mitchell, her mother, accepted the scholarship on her behalf.
Terri Jenkins of the Girl Scout Council presented a scholarship to Waltrina Chance.
Leona Simpson awarded the Burke County Sapphirettes' scholarships to Aliegha Brigham, Brittany Lambert, Gary Collymore, Gregory Collymore, Krystal Roberts, Larry Lewis and Nancy Wright.
Wendy Stanley presented the Piedmont College Scholarship to Mathew Keadle.
Sarah Katherine McNeil awarded the Watson Brown Foundation Scholarship to Jeffery Chandler Jr. and Carrie Ann Stamey.
Nancy Buttermark presented the Burke County Medical Center Scholarship to Mollie Mitchell.

The First National Bank Leadership Scholarship was awarded to Veronika Gaines by Melissa Redd.

Receiving Georgia Certificates of Merit from the University of Georgia for ranking in the top 5 percent of the junior class were Derek Cobb, Deanna Freeman, Ashley Gandy, Tyler Hammett, Donnesha Kelley, Hailey Larmour, Jolinda Powell, Alexandria Price, Christina Rogers, Stephanie Roundtree, Meagan Ryan, Whitney Sims and Meghan Spencer.

Ashley Utley was then presented with the Salutatorian Award, and Jeffrey Chandler was presented with the Valedictorian and Star Student awards.
Dr. Hickman announced the faculty had chosen Tonya Torek as the 2007 Teacher of the Year.
