Life's a beach Sand, surf come downtown Friday Hundreds of locals will put on their flip flops to celebrate summer with 40 tons of sand and four hours of fun. The annual 'Boro Beach Blast will kick off at 5 p.m. Friday in downtown Waynesboro. The streets will be lined with custom surfboards created by the advanced art class at Burke County High School, and a section of Liberty Street will be transformed into Downtown Dunes - a sandy beach for castle building and lounging. There will be non-stop activities for all ages, including H2-Oh! Island - a special area with water slides and wet fun - a wacky beach relay race, sidewalk art, a doggie talent contest and dozens of games and art activities. Booths will be stretched all the way from the courthouse to First United Methodist Church. Burke County's own Homegrown Band will play tunes on the boardwalk, and DJ Joe Jeselnik will crank up the beach music. Admission is $1, and all children must be accompanied by an adult.
