Hit, run and hide

A drunk driver left a trail of car parts and engine oil for police to follow.

According to a report filed at the Waynesboro Police Department last week, a Wadley man was stopped at a Waters Street stop sign when he was allegedly rammed by a Ford Tempo driven by Raul Galindo Barcenas.

After yelling at the driver for stopping, Barcenas, 25, reportedly sped away.

Police arrived to find scattered car parts and a trail of engine oil leading away from the wreck scene.

They followed the trail to a Baduly Street home where the wrecked Tempo was parked in the backyard.

It was covered with large pieces of cardboard and other items "as if to hide (it) from public view," the report said.

After blowing a .209, Barcenas was arrested for hit and run, DUI, no insurance and no driver's license.

Back to back Waynesboro police were called to Magnolia Acres last week after a 14-year-old was shot with a BB gun.

According to the police report, a 13-year-old boy allegedly shot the victim in the back with a Daisy Powerline pistol which was later seized by officers.

The offender was detained and later released to his mother.

Less than two hours later, police were called back to Magnolia Acres when a second child was wounded.

According to the report, a six-year-old girl was allegedly shot in the back by a 16-year-old while playing outside her apartment.

The offender threw down the same model Daisy pistol, which was also taken as evidence.

The case remains under investigation.

Joyride at the landfill

A weekend joyride has once again caused major damage at the Burke County Landfill.

Deputies were called there Sunday when a passerby noticed a wrecked county truck abandoned on Landfill Road.

In didn't take them long to find a torn-down gate at the landfill.

Employees told officers the truck was locked inside when they left work Friday.
