Paintball attacks Waynesboro

A local mother has thought of a way for kids to have fun without getting into trouble, but there's a good chance they'll get shot by their buddies … with paint, that is.

Rhonda Clemens, along with her husband, David, is setting up a paintball field on their land just north of town on Highway 56. The new attraction will be located beside their business, Burke Seed and Farm Supply.

Her interest was sparked by her future sonin law Jose Seutter's passion for the sport. Jose has been playing paint ball for eight years and will manage the field.

Currently, there is no such facility between Augusta and Statesboro, and Mrs. Clemens hopes that it will give local teens and others some entertainment.

"We have this land here, and the kids in the area need something to do," she said. "There's

nothing really for kids

in Waynesboro."

She said her son Alex, a sixthgrader, loves the sport, as do most of the boys in his

class at Edmund

Burke Academy,

and she has been surprised by the sport's growing p o p u - larity.

"People just love it," she said. "We've even had moms say they want to play."

Seutter, who has competed on paintball teams in Florida and California, thinks local residents will have fun with the sport.

"If you like thrills and adrenaline and like to have fun at the same time, this has got it," he said.

The field is currently under construction, with Mrs. Clemens' daughter Meagan and Seutter putting up the netting that will surround the field and installing bunkers.

Seutter said he expects the field to be open for play by Memorial Day weekend. Afterwards, the family plans to open

the facility

each Friday, Saturday and

Sunday.

Patrons may

bring their own

equipment or rent it at

the field. Mrs. Clemens said they plan to have enough gear to equip up to 10 people at a time.

Seutter is enthusiastic about the field's completion and hopes to even start a team in Waynesboro once the facility is up and running.

Alex already has big plans for Seutter to train a team of his friends.

"Right now, Jose is the hero of the sixth-grade boys," Mrs. Clemens said with a laugh.
