Hospital volunteers honored

Burke Medical Center recently held an awards banquet to honor a few of their most valuable assets, their volunteers. Approximately 30 volunteers donated more than 4,000 hours over the past year. Volunteers staff the gift shop, attend the information desk and serve in the ward. Dr. Shelley Griffin and Hospital Authority Chairman Gerald Murray thanked the volunteers and reported on plans to remodel the hospital's lobby. Volunteers donated $6,000 to the hospital last year for the remodeling project.

Volunteers include president Nancy Buttermark, vice president Anne Hogan, secretary Hilda Royal, treasurer Margaret Elliott, newsletter coordinator Ruth Slager, hospitality officers Alice MacArthur and Maryann Yoder, gift shop officer Janice O'Quinn, desk coordinator Marjorie Cochran, Gwynne Bell, Cindy Blackburn, Pat Blount, Rose Brookins, Christine Edenfield, Trudie Gordon, Christine Gray, Maxine Johnson, Patricia Lastinger, Katherine Lively, Burdelle Mobley, Oletta Mosher, Linda Murray, Hattie Outlaw, Margaret Phillips, Elizabeth Rogers, Laura Sims, Andrea Slager, Bob Slager, Betty Taylor, Amanda Teague, Frances Turner and Elaine Williams. Velma Bragg, RN, is the hospital's coordinator.
