10 stolen golf carts recovered
By Elizabeth Billips Associate Editor

Police have recovered a fleet of stolen golf carts.

It began last Monday when an officer noticed a cart hidden in some bushes along Railroad Avenue.

The engine was still hot and the front end had been damaged.

Officers tracked the cart back to Mr. Golf Carts where they found a hole cut in the rear fence.

Two days later, an informant looking for reward money told officers he knew where they could find more.

He sent police to Pilgrim Way where they could see dust flying up from carts racing around a stand of pine trees. As officers followed the dust trail, one golf cart turned and began heading straight toward them.

When the driver, 17-year-old Khari Wright, realized who they were, he jumped off the moving cart and tried to run, the police report said. When he fell down, officers arrested him for theft by receiving stolen property.

A walk through the woods turned up eight more carts.

Lt. Mary Bennett says the carts were probably stolen quite some time ago, as evidenced by their wear-and-tear and a well-established racing track through the woods.

While officers aren't sure who's responsible, they said a number of juveniles have been using them for joyriding and racing.
