Mrs. Vera Goodwin Umpleby

Vera Goodwin Umpleby, 82, of Waynesboro entered into rest Thursday, April 5, 2007, at Burke Medical Center in Waynesboro, GA.

Memorial services were held Monday, April 9, at 4 p.m. at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, Waynesboro, GA with Fr. Steve Rice officiating. The family received friends in the Parish Hall after the service.

Mrs. Umpleby was born in England on July 31, 1924 to the late Montague and Alice Goodwin. She came to Rochester, N.Y., with her brothers and sisters at the age of 16. She married Donald Umpleby on Sept. 2, 1944. She retired as a financial administrator at Rochester General Hospital. In 1997 she moved to Waynesboro and became a member of St. Michael's Episcopal Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Umpleby.

She is survived by a son, Ri- chard Umpleby (Rosemary) of Waynesboro; a daughter, Nancy Fornataro (Bill) of Banning, Calif.; a brother, Kenneth Goodwin of England; three grandchildren, Vida Castaneda (Matt) of San Leandro, Calif., Jennifer McLaughlin (Shawn) of Charlotte, N.C., Jonathan Umpleby of Chicago, Ill.; two great-grandchildren, Giovanni and Isabella Castaneda; and many nieces and nephews.
