Diabetic Teaching

A free diabetic teaching course will be held 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, April 11, at Burke Medical Center. Patients are encouraged to bring a partner or any person who helps with food preparation. Old Fella Rescue

Old Fella Burke County Animal Rescue will hold a meeting 7 p.m. Thursday, April 12, at First Liberty Market.

The public is invited.

Class of '02

The Burke County High School Class of 2002 is making plans for a five-year reunion to be held 6:30 p.m. Saturday, May 19, at the old Blakeney Elementary School building on College Street. For more information call Kirby Herrington at 706-466-3694 or Ken Walker at 706-551-1718.

Class of '88

The Burke County High School Class of 1988 will hold a reunion meeting 11 a.m. Saturday, April 21, at the Burke County Public Library.

Golf tournament Burke County Women in Business will hold its first ever scholarship tournament Saturday, June 2, at Waynesboro Country Club.

Tee off will be at 10 a.m. Four-man scramble, with at least one female per team. Cost is $65 per player, and a dance will follow the tournament at 8 p.m.

Relay For Life

Burke County Relay For Life Team "Homey and Friends" will hold a bucket drive Saturday, April 14, from 8 a.m. to noon at the intersection of Sixth and Liberty streets.

"Drive-by" to make a donation. All proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society.

Memorial service

A Confederate memorial service for soldier John Perry Long will be held 4 p.m. Saturday, April 14, at Bethlehem Baptist Church, three miles south of Girard.

Long served in the Confederate Army as a private, Company D, 27th Battalion Georgia State Troops and Company C, 32nd Regiment Georgia Infantry.

Mary Frazier Long, a historian, humorist and author on Southern culture, will be guest speaker. She is married to William Dean Long, grandson of the late Private Long.

Memorial service

The Margaret Jones Chapter #27 United Daughters of the Confederacy will have its annual Confederate Memorial Service at Magnolia Cemetery 10 a.m. Saturday, April 14.

The public is invited, and refreshments will be served.

Childbirth classes

Enterprise Community Healthy Start will offer free childbirth classes 5:30-7:30 p.m. April 17-18 and 24-25.

The office is located at 315 S. Liberty St., Suite C, Waynesboro.

Free legal help

Georgia Legal Services Program (GLSP) staff will be in Burke County to meet with senior citizens wanting free legal help Monday, April 16. Staff will be at the Midville Senior Center, 9:15-11 a.m.; and the Waynesboro Senior Center, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

The services are for senior citizens age 60 and older.
