Mr. John Isaac Mulling

John Isaac Mulling, 72, of Midville, died peacefully on Jan. 3, 2007 as a result of complications from Parkinson's disease which he was diagnosed in 1988.

Funeral services were held on Friday, Jan. 5, at 3 p.m. at Midville United Methodist Church in Midville, with the Revs. Tony Smith, Beau Taylor and Gene Cochran officiating. Mr. Mulling lay-in-state one hour prior to the service. Interment followed in Midville City Cemetery.

He was born Feb. 13, 1934 in Midville, and was the retired former owner of Midville Tool and Die Company Inc., which he founded in 1969.

He graduated from Midville High School in 1952 and was appointed to the U.S. Naval Academy by U.S. Congressman Prince Preston while attending Marion Military Institute in Marion, Ala. He graduated from the University of Georgia with a BS in Physics in 1958 and married Mary Ann Overstreet of Twin City.

He served in the U.S. Army for two years as a 1st Lt. at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas. He was a faithful member of Midville United Methodist Church since childhood where he held many leadership positions within the church, and he was a past member and officer of the Midville Lions Club. He was a founding organizer of the Ogeechee River Redbreast Festival first held in 1985. He was also the former owner of Mulling True Value Hardware.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Johnnie Bell Lamb Mulling, and his father, Claiborne Sneed Mulling.

He is survived by his three sons, Isaac Jefferson Mulling of Savannah, John Overstreet Mulling of New York, N.Y., and Samuel Claiborne Mulling and his wife, Amanda, of Midville, ; a daughter, Ann Brinson Mulling of Milledgeville; a sister, Sara Ann Mulling Stover of Mequon, WI; his four grandchildren, Isaac Jefferson Mulling Jr., Evan Isaac Mulling, Nathan Mulling and Gracy Mulling; his special friend and caregiver, Pearl Mulherin; and many nephews, nieces and cousins.

Pallbearers were Dru Williams, Ralph Sandeford, Chesley Flanders, Scotty Womack, Robby Powers, Woody Thurman, Steve Bunn, Jeff Bunn and Jeff Boatright. Honorary pallbearers were Hogarth Sandeford, George Holloway, James Howell, Glen Saxon, Morris Green and Lacy Frye.

Visitation was held on Thursday, Jan. 4, from 6-8 p.m. at DeLoach-Kennedy Funeral Home in Waynesboro.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials in his memory to Midville United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 345, Midville, GA 30441.
