Youmans wins UDC essay contests
Ariana Youmans, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mick Youmans, won the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC) essay contest, which was open to 10th, 11th and 12th grade students. The designated subject was “The Atlanta Cyclorama.” Ariana’s essay won at the local, district and finally state-level, each carrying a cash prize. The prize for the state competition was a check for $400 from the Georgia Division of the UDC. The objective of the UDC is to promote patriotism, preserve history and give financial aid through scholarships to deserving students. Ariana has been a charter member of the local chapter of the Children of the Confederacy since its charter was granted and is a member of the local Margaret Jones Chapter of the UDC. She currently attends Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville. Pictured, from left, are Jeanette Click, Rosemary Tinley, Ariana, Betty Trentor, Sara Carter and Isabelle Edmonds.
