Midville residents to see tax hike Midville residents will likely see a property tax increase this year with the final passage of the city’s millage rate Thursday. City council proposed a tax increase of two mills to support a $384,400 budget for 2007. Last year, the budget totaled $348,900. Previously the millage rate was 14 mills with a rollback to 12. Council is currently proposing a rate of 16 mills with a rollback to 14 mills. Officials blame increases in unemployment and health insurance payments for the boost in the budget. Council members expect the extra two mills to generate around $9,300 in additional revenue. The first two of three public hearings for the budget and the tax rate were held last week. No residents showed up to voice their opinions on either. Final passage of the millage rate and the budget is slated for Thursday (tomorrow) at council’s regularly scheduled meeting. The meeting was moved from Monday evening due to the New Year’s Day holiday. |
