Arrests expected in Sardis drive-by

      One man was hit in a drive-by shooting last Wednesday, and two others were injured in fights involving bricks, bottles and cue sticks. Deshaziur Rouse, 25, was shot in the forearm while standing outside the Social Club in Sardis.

      A 1,200-pound heifer was to blame for the marred front end of this sport utility vehicle above. Ferney Guy slammed into the large bovine on Highway 56 South on her way to Waynesboro Thursday morning. While the heifer did not survive the encounter, Guy escaped without injury.

      The following arrests were reported last week by the Burke County Sheriff’s Office: Wednesday, Dec. 20  Roy Martin Whitney, 58, of 2405 Centennial Hills Way, Acworth, was arrested on four counts of harassing phone calls. A $1,500 property bond was posted.
