      April McDaniel April Elizabeth McDaniel has been selected to receive two separate schola rships awarded by the Univer- sity of Georgia College of Agric ultural and Environmental Sciences for the 2007-2008 academic year. She will receive the Southern States Cooperative Scholarship, which is awarded to students in college who have been active in 4-H or FFA.

Steadman, Burkhalter marry
      The marriage of Miss Julia Marsh Steadman to Mr. Stuart Alexander Burkhalter took place Aug. 4, 2007, at Farmington Country Club in Charlottesville, Va. The Rev. Dr. George C. Anderson officiated. The bride is the daughter of Linda Kent Steadman and Mr. and Mrs. George Alfred Steadman III, all of Roanoke, Va. She was escorted and given in marriage by her father.

Miss Chance weds Mr. Hamilton
      Ms. Shantier Chance and Mr. Evereese "Reese" Hamilton II were united in marriage in a surprise ceremony Sept. 1, 2007 at The Club at Glencrest Park in Lawrenceville. The Rev. Patricia Boyd Wilson officiated at the ceremony. Family and friends gathered to attend what was thought to be a quaint engagement party.

Birth
      Rebecca Claire Seeger Mr. and Mrs. Rhodes Seeger of Augusta announce the birth of their daughter, Rebecca Claire, born Sept. 28, 2007, at University Hospital. She weighed 7 pounds, 10 ounces and was 20½ inches long. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Harper of Thomson and Mr. and Mrs. Walt Seeger of Waynesboro.

Miss Spradling to wed Mr. Flanders
      Miss Tammy Spradling of Augusta announces the engagement of her daughter, Victoria Elizabeth, to Robert Joseph Flanders, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Flanders of Hephzibah. The wedding is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, 2007, at Faith Baptist Church in Blythe.

Smith's residence featured on tour
David and Reesa Smith 544 Cohen Road
      David and Reesa Smith live in a one-and-a-half-story French farmhouse built in 2005. The house includes three bedrooms, a family room, open kitchen and playroom/dining room areas. The rooms are furnished with wooden pieces and accessories that were built by David several years ago.

We remember
     A candle vigil was held at the Burke County Court House Thursday, Oct. 25, to remember victims of domestic violence. Betty White, center, who serves as a member of Burke County Against Domestic Violence, said that every 15 seconds one person in the United States experiences family violence. As participants lit their candles, a white carnation sat in remembrance of Lorne White, who died due to domestic violence this year.

     Where can you find Superman playing basketball with a dragon, a cow and a pink poodle? At the Burke County Library's Halloween costume contest!
