Each year, personnel at Duke University sponsor the Talent Identification Program (TIP) to identify verbally and mathematically talented students at an early age. More ... Several Burke County FFA members recently competed in the Georgia National Fair FFA Floral Design Career Development Event held in Perry. Burke County High School students competing were Danquell Allen, Jordan Higgins, La'Shay Holloway, Gelicia Jones, Tyral McGee, Sabrina Phillips, Karen Segrest, Brittany Williams and Calliea Williams. Competitors from Burke County Middle School were Sheronte Williams and Shirnese Scott. The Floral Design Career Development Event allows students to utilize the principles and elements of design. Each student makes two floral arrangements and answers questions by a panel of judges concerning floral design principles. Students use the principles of balance, proportion and scale, focal point, emphasis, rhythm, harmony and unity and the technique of flower placement to create their designs. FFA is a national organization of over 449,000 members preparing for leadership and careers in the science, business and technology of agriculture.
