Man tries to dupe Magistrate Court
      Burke County's Magistrate Court is the latest on the growing list of identity fraud victims. The alleged perpetrator? A Girard resident who got hold of a refund check. According to Waynesboro police investigator Claude Wade, arrest warrants were issued for Donald Pete Hopkins Jr. for three felony counts of identity fraud.

Police probe school bomb threat
      The Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab is analyzing the handwriting samples of an entire class at the Burke County Alternative School. According to Investigator Bobbie Jockel of the Waynesboro Police Department, the samples were collected after a student found a handwritten bomb threat in a classroom last Monday.

      10 points A Burke County man bagged a trophy buck … the hard way. The man was driving his brand new truck down West Sixth Street before daybreak Tuesday when a 10-pointer came out of the Pineland Bakery parking lot and ran into the side of his Chevy.

Gunman robs local KFC
      Police are trying to solve another armed robbery. A Kentucky Fried Chicken employee called them just after closing time last Thursday and said an armed robber accosted him in the parking lot and forced him back inside. The employee told officers the robber demanded money, then asked "Is that it?" after being handed a bank bag with an undisclosed amount of cash inside.
