Bears pull out triple overtime win
      The Burke County High School Bears (3-2) turned a botched handoff into a winning play in their triple over time victory at Harlem High School Friday night. Senior quarterback Tyler Hammett roared into the end zone on a two-point conversion on the last play of the game to give their Bears a 15-13 win over the Bulldogs.

BCHS beats Josey, falls to Cross Creek on court
      The Burke County High School volleyball team took the good with the bad last Thursday afternoon. After a convincing victory over Josey High School, the Lady Bears fell to Cross Creek High School in a game that coaches said included several questionable calls.

Spartans hope to end 0-5 drought as region play begins
      As the first region game of the season nears, the Spartans are still looking to turn around their 0-5 record. Edmund Burke suffered a 25- 6 loss against Valwood School last Friday night, and the blow of that fifth straight loss came just a week prior to the Spartans' first region match-up against Bulloch Academy.

Cubs roar like Bears on gridiron
Seventh graders win region title with perfect season
      Burke County Middle School's seventh-grade football team claimed the region title after a perfect season that ended in a victory over Screven County. The Cubs were 4-0, and turned in performances that bode well for future teams at the high school.

Jr. Pro Spartans tack on another win
     The junior pro football team (3-1-1) at Edmund Burke Academy toppled Bulloch Academy 12-0 last Tuesday, Oct. 2, and then defeated Briarwood 14-6 on Saturday, Oct. 6, in their last home game of the season. In Tuesday's game, a pass from Brandon Eubanks to Will Dixon resulted in the Spartans' first touchdown, and with seconds left in the game, Rob Murray scored with a quarterback keeper. On Saturday, Eubanks hit Dixon with two passes that were good for touchdowns, and Cal Lee captured a 2-point conversion. Pictured is Dixon as he ran in his second touchdown of Saturday's game. The Spartans traveled to Thomson to play Briarwood yesterday (Tuesday, Oct. 9) but results were not available at press time.
