Cotton, peanut harvesting underway

Cotton pickers and peanut diggers ventured into the fields last week as some early birds in Burke County began gathering their crops. Burke County Extension Coordinator Will Duffie said the harvest of peanuts should be in full swing by next week and cotton harvest should follow suit in a couple of weeks. Duffie said the overall cotton crop looks highly variable, but at this point it looks like a below-average crop. However, he said the peanuts have good potential.
