Mary Hargrove of the Edmund Burke Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution stands next to Mayor Jesse Stone as he signs a proclamation commemorating Sept. 17-23 as Constitution Week. September 17th marks the 220th anniversary of America's founding document. On that day in 1787, 12 state delegations approved the Constitution, and 39 delegates to the convention signed off on it. In honor of Constitution Week, the Edmund Burke DAR has displayed information about the document in the Burke County and Screven County public libraries, and promoted it through other avenues in the community. Eighteen teenagers from Burke County High School's Interact Club spent Saturday washing cars for a cause. The club, which is sponsored by the Waynesboro Rotary Club and headed up by BCHS teacher Karen Reeves, has been partnering with the Old Fella Burke County Animal Rescue for the past year. Broadway performer and award winning New York cabaret star, Robert Ray brings his hit show "Let the Good Times Roll" to the Waynesboro Concert Series for one night only - Saturday, September 22 at 8 pm. The high-energy show kicks off the 2007-2008 series and will engage the whole family. At past performances in Atlanta, Moultrie and Highlands, NC, people have literally danced in the aisles to music made famous by Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Carole King, Gladys Knight and Nat King Cole. The audience can expect to hear Ray and three of Atlanta's top cabaret performers, backed by a four-piece jazz ensemble as they pay tribute to some of American's best loved composers: Duke Ellington, George Gershwin and Johnny Mercer. The show will close with a rousing, sing-along gospel medley featuring favorites such as "Bridge Over Troubled Waters", "This Little Light of Mine" and "I'll Fly Away."
