Mr. Gene Austeen McMillan

Mr. Gene Austeen McMillan, Retired U.S. Army CW02 of Augusta, Ga., entered into rest on Aug. 29, 2007 at his residence.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, 2007 at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, Columbia Road Chapel with the Rev. Bill Harrell, the Rev. Barry Daniels, and the Rev. Marion Jay officiating.

Interment followed in Bellevue Memorial Gardens with full military honors accorded by the Ceremonial Detachment of Fort Gordon.

Honorary pallbearers were members of the Emory Sayers Sunday School Class of Abilene Baptist Church and were asked to assemble at the funeral home 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Deason McMillan; a son, Gary D. (Janet) McMillan; brothers, Jack McMillan, Robert McMillan, Eugene McMillan, Harris McMillan, Gary McMillan and Kenneth McMillan; a sister, Kathleen Jenkins; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three sons, Gene Austeen McMillan Jr., Mitchell Edward McMillan and Richard Lee McMillan.

Mr. McMillan was retired from the U.S. Army as a Chief Warrant Officer; serving during the Vietnam Conflict he received the Bronze Star. He was a member of Abilene Baptist Church, the Emory Sayers Sunday School Class, and Fleming Lodge # 718.
