North Liberty businesses burglarized, robbed

By Elizabeth Billips Associate Editor

Two North Liberty Street businesses were the targets of crime last Wednesday.

According to a report filed at the Waynesboro Police Department, a masked robber stuck a gun into the face of a Best Western clerk around 3:30 a.m. and demanded money.

After the clerk emptied the register, he was forced into the laundry area and told to count to 100 while the robber fled out the back door.

Later that night, a restaurant right across the street also fell victim.

When employees opened The Borough Restaurant and Bar Thursday morning, they discovered the cash register had been emptied and a bank deposit bag had been stolen.

Although there was no sign of forced entry, one of the owners said she'd heard a noise just before closing the night prior and believes someone may have been hiding inside the building.

Both cases remain under investigation, and anyone with information is asked to call investigators at 706-554-8029.
