Miss Morgan Franks becomes bride of Mr. Edenfield in candlelight ceremony
      Miss Virginia Morgan Franks became the bride of Robert Bradham Edenfield in a candlelight ceremony Saturday, July 28, 2007 at six o'clock in the evening at Sacred Heart Cultural Center in Augusta with the Rev. Marvin Simpson of Elon, N.C. officiating.

Burke County youth travel to Tennessee
     Twenty youth in Burke Community Partnership's Summer Learning program traveled to Tennessee as a part of a regional trip with students from Jefferson, Jenkins, Lincoln, Richmond and Columbia counties. During the trip, students had the opportunity to visit Rock City, the Tennessee Aquarium, the IMAX theatre, a Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre show and Lake Winnipesauke Amusement Park. They also visited the Ruby Falls cave, right, which is located 1,120 feet deep in the heart of Lookout Mountain. Look, mom - I'm not scared
     Burke Community Partnership's Reading Camp participants recently visited the Wild Animal Safari in LaGrange. The campers closed out camp for the summer by studying and reading books about wild animals and going on a safari. Pictured is Logan Sams who bravely fed a zebra.

Adam Lutz
      Coast Guard Petty Officer 3rd Class Adam Lutz advanced to petty officer third class recently, after completing five months of training to become an avionics electrical technician. He is currently assigned to Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City, N.J., where he works on and flies in HH-65C Dolphin helicopters.

Saxon receives award
     Rotarian Shannon Saxon recently received the Paul Harris Fellow Award from Waynesboro Rotary Club President Billy Joe Johnson Jr. The award was presented on behalf of the club in appreciation for her service as Past Rotary Club President for 2005-2006. Along with this award, the club also donated $1,000 in Saxon's honor to the Rotary Foundation. This money is used to fund a multitude of international humanitarian projects that save and change lives, including Rotary's fight to help eradicate Polio, to support ambassadorial scholarships and to support Group Study Exchange, to name a few.

      Wyatt Thomas Carey Tim and Jaime Carey of Waynesboro announce the birth of their son, Wyatt Thomas, born 1 p.m. July 20, 2007 at Burke Medical Center. Grandparents are Roy and Patsy Black of Waynesboro and Bob and Liz Carey of Leitchfield, Ky.

A special birthday surprise
     Emily Cox of Waynesboro received a special gift from U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson for her 95th birthday. Senator Isakson arranged for an American flag to be flown over the United States Capitol building in honor of Mrs. Cox's birthday and sent it to her with a personal note. Mrs. Cox explained that her late son Marine Lt. Jack Cox, who was killed in Vietnam, had been a roommate and fraternity brother of Senator Isakson while they attended the University of Georgia.
