Clint Hill of Martinez and Robin Hill of Augusta announce the engagement of their daughter, April Lena Hill of Evans, to John Ashton Barefield, son of Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Barefield of Waynesboro. Participating in commencement ceremonies at Mercer University Saturday, May 12, were Jennifer Raborn, Baxter Jones and Suzanne Palmer. Raborn, who received a Bachelor of Science from the School of Engineering, is the daughter of Debbie Raborn of Vidette and the late Johnnie Raborn. Jones, the son of Melany and Russell Jones of Waynesboro, earned a Bachelor of Science. Palmer received a Bachelor of Arts and is the daughter of Nancy and Jeff Palmer of Waynesboro. The three, who are all 2003 graduates of Edmund Burke Academy, began their friendship 17 years ago as kindergarten classmates at EBA. More ... Wednesday, Saxon opened up a "Kool-Aid" stand on Spring Valley Road serving the fruity drink 50 cents a cup. The young entrepreneur sold homemade cookies for 50 cents too. Saxon's older cousin, Amy Jackson, said they ran across the stand earlier that day. "We were in the attic and found it," said Jackson. Saxon is a student at Burke County Middle School. More ...
