Lady Bears breeze by region for championship
      The region track meet lasted two days, but by the end of the first, the Lady Bears practically had the trophy in the bag. By the time the first race was over on Saturday, there was no chance another school could catch the girls from Burke County. The other teams were left racing for second.

Lady Bears bag region golf title
      Burke County High School's girls' golf team claimed the championship trophy at the region tournament Saturday for the second time in the school's history. The girls won the title by two strokes under second-place Thomson High School, the only team to beat them this year.

Bears move to 4-5 in region baseball
      Burke County High School (12-10) recorded another win last Tuesday, but followed up with two region losses later in the week. The Bears defeated Hephzibah High School 5-2 on the Rebels' home field. Brandon Love struck out eight batters and gave up six hits and three walks in seven innings.

Middle school scrimmage Friday
      Burke County Middle School plans to hold its first-ever spring scrimmage football game Friday, April 27. Around 45 rising eighth graders have spent the past week and a half on the field running plays and passing footballs, and they're ready to show off their skills.

At state Seven tracksters to compete
      Seven Spartans qualified to participate in the state track meet in Albany this week, and one of them enters the competition as a region champ. Sophomore Jeremy Hayes crossed the finish line of the 200- meter in 24.24 seconds to become the Region 2-AA Champion in the event. He also qualified in the 100 with his second place finish of 11.78.

EBA baseball Mangieri, Wade lead Spartans through season
      Their playoff hopes were shattered last week as the season came to an end for Edmund Burke Academy's Spartans baseball team. They were defeated by Memorial Day School 14-9 last Tuesday, which brought their region record to 2-5 and prevented them from advancing to the state playoffs.

Golf team defeats Brentwood
      The Spartans golf team swung into pre-region play this week after ending their regular season with a victory over Brentwood High School. Edmund Burke's team shot 302 at the Twin Cities Country Club in Tenille, 73 strokes better than the Eagles' 375.
