      It's spring and now is the time to stock up on those sweet Vidalia onions. Vidalia onions are best when eaten during their short season from April to mid- June. However, they may be stored by placing them in old, clean, sheer pantyhose. Just tie a knot between each onion, hang in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area and cut above the knot when you need an onion.

Prom rom 2007

Remembering their sacrifices
     Men, women and children gathered Sunday afternoon to pay tribute to the sacrifices of the South during the bloodiest four years in American History. Confederate Memorial Day is observed in Georgia each year on April 26, the day of Confederate General Joseph E. Johnston's surrender to Union General William Sherman. The Brigadier General John C. Carter Camp 207 Sons of Confederate Veterans organized Sunday's memorial service held at the Confederate Memorial Cemetery on West Sixth Street. Fallen soldiers were remembered through a memorial address, salutes and song. Several of those attending called the names of ancestors and their service during the War Between the States. At left, re-enactors fire a salute at the end of the ceremony.

Pigskin fund-raiser
     The high school girls at Edmund Burke Academy showed they could throw around the pigskin as they participated in a powder puff football game to raise money for children affected by HIV/AIDS. The idea was pushed by EBA alumni Lauren Hogan, who is a member of the University of Georgia's HEROs club, and the event, which was sponsored by EBA's Interact Club, raised $3,199. The senior/freshman team dominated the game, beating the junior/sophomore team 24-6.
