Pit bulls chained to stolen property

      A hunt for stolen railroad ties led Norfolk Southern employees to what might have been a makeshift dog fighting ring. Employees found their cross ties last Wednesday in a wooded section of the right-ofway behind the Lee Street housing project. The ties were stacked to make a small wall and had a pair of pit bulls chained to them.

      Rapid road kill A Midville woman who hit a deer last Saturday night was planning to file a report when she got home from church the next day. It was a tough weekend for her SUV. According to a report filed at the Burke County Sheriff's Office, the woman's windshield was broken approximately 12 hours later when she hit a buzzard on the way to morning services.

      The following arrests were reported last week by the Burke County Sheriff 's Office: Monday, April 16 + Deon Santice Golphin, 20, of 2826 Murray Hill Road, Sardis, was arrested by the Georgia State Patrol for driving with a suspended license and speeding (76 mph in a 55 mph zone). A $1,975 property bond was posted.
