BCHS girls host region track meet

      Burke County High School will host the region meet this weekend for girls' track and field events, and the host school has shown plenty of promise for a region title this season. The boys' and girls' teams most recently tamed the Wolfpack from Greenbrier High School and grounded the Eagles from Jenkins County High School.

Bears hang up their rackets

      Burke County High School's tennis teams concluded their season last week, finishing up fourth in sub-region standings. The top three teams in each subregion will play in the region tournament today (Wednesday). In the Bears' final match last Tuesday, they were defeated by Evans High School. The Knights defeated the BCHS girls 5-0 and the boys 4-1.

Bears rally to take down Liberty County

      Burke County High School (11-8) battled back from a fiverun deficit Friday for a hardfought win over Liberty County High School. The Bears were down 5-0 by the fourth inning, but the home team wouldn't give up. They answered the challenge in the fifth, sending five of their batters across home plate. One more run in the sixth inning gave Burke County the lead.

      The doubles team of Amy Bunn and Katie Kittrell of Edmund Burke Academy finished third in the Region 2-AA tournament last week and earned a spot in the state competition.       Edmund Burke tracksters will travel to Statesboro tomorrow (Thursday, April 19) to compete in the Region 2-AA meet. Coaches seemed optimistic on how the two teams would fare, indicating that they are looking to see some of their athletes qualify for the state meet to be held in Albany April 26- 28.
