      A former Midville mayor has written a book and says he relied on his experiences growing up in rural Burke County for much of his material.

New tag available to support agriculture
      A new tag is available to support Burke County's oldest industry…agriculture. The "Support Georgia Agriculture" tag raises funds to support youth agriculture programs in Georgia. It may be ordered at the county tag office. A special manufacturing fee of $25 is required to place an order. For each tag sold, $10 goes to the state's FFA and 4-H programs.

Burke voters deleted from records
      Inactivity in the voting booth prompted the secretary of state's office to delete more than 500 Burke County voters from their registry. There are currently 11,909 active voters and 1,113 inactive voters in the county, according to Barbara Hammett, executive director of the Burke County Board of Elections and Registration.

DOT: Waynesboro plant makes highest quality concrete
      Waynesboro Concrete Company has been recognized by the Georgia Department of Transportation for making the best concrete around. The DOT awarded the plant for its performance and quality in 2006.

Jameson Inn honored with hospitality award
      The Jameson Inn in Waynesboro and its sister hotels are being recognized for customer satisfaction. The Jameson Inn brand, which also includes the Signature Inn brand, received the 2006 Annual Market Metrix Hospitality Index (MMHI) award, having ranked highest in consumer satisfaction among the economy hotels category.

Looking Back
      10 years ago: April 9, 1997 A federal judge dismissed a $10 million lawsuit against the City of Waynesboro. The suit had been filed by former police officer Marvin Jones who was injured during a training exercise. 25 years ago: April 14, 1982 Mrs. Florence Borom retired after 10 years of service as the Burke County Librarian.
