The Burke County High School boys' and girls' track and field teams left Evans and Jefferson County high schools in the dust last week. Burke County High School golfers penciled in some winning numbers on their scorecards last week. They played Greenbrier and Jefferson County high schools at the Waynesboro Country Club Tuesday, March 27, topping both teams. The boys edged out Greenbrier by four strokes. The Bears' 312 gave them the win over the Wolfpack's 316 and the Warriors' 402. More ... Two region losses were handed to the Spartans (3-7, 1-4) last week, but they showed they could put up a fight. On Monday, March 26, they lost 10-2 to Frederica Academy in St. Simons then turned around to play them again Friday at home, narrowly losing, 10-9, in an eight-inning game. More ... The Spartans golf team played their last home match of the season, winning by forfeit Thursday, March 29, when Bulloch Academy showed up with just three players. Leading the low scores at the Waynesboro Country Club was senior Daniel Mobley, 69, Bernie Smith, 76, Matthew Rocker, 79, and Jeremy Hayes, 86, for a total score of 310. More ...
