From the Blotter

IOU, whew!

Sardis police surrounded the house of a local man who fired a shotgun across South Hill Street. The gunman, 20-yearold Christopher Marsh, reportedly shot two rounds at someone who owed him $20. Police had surrounded Marsh's house and called for backup when the offender's minister came by and said Marsh wasn't actually inside. The minister, who'd had contact by cell phone, said Marsh left the shotgun inside and ran into the woods as police arrived. Marsh turned himself in shortly thereafter and was charged with reckless conduct and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Joyless ride

Waynesboro Police were dispatched to Davis Road after a 17-year-old went for a wild ride.

According to the report, the girl was sitting on the hood of a car when the 21-year-old driver took off. Despite her screams for him to stop, he left Burkestone Apartments and drove toward the Waynesboro Bypass before turning around and taking her back. The teen was not injured.

Good Samaritan

A Waynesboro resident helped return a missing man to his family in Savannah.

The Good Samaritan transported the 55-year-old to police headquarters last Friday after finding him along Highway 25, confused and worried that his car had run out of gas.

Police linked the man to Chatham County and soon learned he was an Alzheimer's patient who'd left the hospi- tal the day prior.

The man's granddaughter, who was filing a missing person's report at the Savannah- Chatham County Police Department when Waynesboro police called, came straight to Waynesboro to pick him up.

Tag team

Several drivers across the county were left scratching their heads this week when they noticed problems with their vehicle tags. In most cases, the problem was the tag's absence.

According to reports at the Burke County Sheriff's Office, five drivers reported that their tags or tag decals had gone missing.

Family a'foul

A Sardis woman and her son were arrested after the family lashed out at deputies with a colorful array of curse words at the Cotton Gin Food Market.

When deputies initially tried to speak to Kody Burke, 18, who was observed avoiding a road block, he said "they can't (expletive) touch me."

His juvenile brother then angrily approached deputies, yelling "Y'all ain't gonna (expletive) with my brother. What the (expletive) did he do?"

Their mother, Krystal Jackson, 36, joined in, saying, "(Expletive) this (expletive)." When deputies warned her of her language, she continued, "Y'all ain't gonna do a (expletive) thing to my son. He can do any (expletive) thing he wants to."

When deputies proceeded to take Jackson into custody, Burke screamed, "Y'all better not do anything to my mother-(expletive) momma."

Both mother and son were charged with disorderly conduct.
