Local man wanted for assaulting mother

      Deputies are looking for a man they say beat up and fired a rifle at his 63-year-old mother. Arrest warrants were issued for Bernard Derrick Cook, 41, of Waynesboro on charges of aggravated assault, cruelty to children, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and interference with a 911 call.

      IOU, whew! Sardis police surrounded the house of a local man who fired a shotgun across South Hill Street. The gunman, 20-yearold Christopher Marsh, reportedly shot two rounds at someone who owed him $20. Police had surrounded Marsh's house and called for backup when the offender's minister came by and said Marsh wasn't actually inside.

Burke County Sheriff's Office
      The following arrests were reported last week by the Burke County Sheriff's Office: Tuesday, March 20 + Mary Helen Walden, 51, of 602-A Hadden Pond Road, Waynesboro, was arrested for aggravated assault and criminal damage to property in the second degree. An $11,800 property bond was posted.
