Bears gear up for region play Friday
      It's time for the Bears to show the region what they can do on the diamond. The Burke County High School baseball team (7-4) kicks off region play Friday against Liberty County High School. Head coach Todd Booker said his team is ready. He threw four pitchers in the Bears' 8-0 victory over Jefferson County High School Monday for warm-up, and he liked what he saw.

Bears hard to beat on the track
      The Burke County High School track teams are off to an incredible start this year, and Coach Purvis Dukes points to a diversity in talent as the reason for their success. Since their first meet a couple of weeks ago, BCHS's girls and boys teams have taken top honors at all meets except one, where they each came in second.

Blackstock named athletic director, head coach
      Edmund Burke Academy has chosen one of its own to fill the role of both athletic director and head f o o t b a l l coach beginning the 2007-2008 school year. J e r e m y Blackstock beat out 23 other applicants for the positions and said he was very excited about the opportunity.

Golfers shoot first and fourth
      Edmund Burke Academy's golf team has picked up first and fourth place finishes, improving their overall record to 26-5. The Spartans teed off against Thomas Jefferson Academy and Bulloch Academy at the Waynesboro Country Club last Thursday, earning the lowest score with 304. TJA scored 332 while Bulloch had 335.

B-team remains undefeated
      Edmund Burke Academy's Bteam baseball team continued their winning ways with four victories this week to improve their record to 9-0. On Tuesday, the Spartans swept a doubleheader from Pinewood Academy, 14-3 and 10- 1. Leading hitters for the day were Michael Weaver, Brandon Sharpe, Alex Sturkie, Jake Evans and Auston Riggs.

Spartans pick up a win
      The Spartans (2-4, 1-1) gained a win and a region loss on the diamond last week, beating John Hancock Academy (JHA), 10-9, and losing to region foe Trinity Christian School, 11-1. They played Bulloch Academy in their third region game of the season yesterday (Tuesday), but results were not available at press time. Edmund Burke Academy will play Curtis Baptist this Saturday, March 24, at 11 a.m.

EBA tracksters finish third
      Edmund Burke Academy opened track season last Wednesday with third place finishes for both the girls and boys teams. Col. Richard Moore, who coaches the girls team, said that with just a week's worth of practice, he was very pleased with their performance.

Spartans host Round Robin
      The tennis team of Edmund Burke Academy earned the most wins after hosting a Round Robin match at Citizens Park last Thursday. Kayla Milligan won two matches, 8-1 and 8-0. Other girls winning matches were Caroline Collins, 8-0, Kim Dixon, 8-3, and Katie Reeves, 8-1. In doubles, Amy Bunn and Katie Kittrell won two matches, 8-1 and 8-3.

Local boys compete on nationally ranked team
      The Classic Shockers Gray are now ranked second in the nation, and three Burke County boys have been contributing to the team's success. Logan Christian, John Evans Jr.
