Fires may be linked to Jefferson arsonists
      Somebody kept Burke County firefighters busy last week, and EMA Chief Rusty Sanders wants to know who. Between Wednesday night and Saturday morning, firefighters were called to the Hephzibah and Keysville areas seven times for fires in fields, woods and abandoned homes and trailers.

Do you recognize these burglars?
      Waynesboro police are asking for the public's help in identifying the two men who tried to break into Burke Pawn and Firearms on March 13. The attempted break-in was caught on a security camera police installed after an attempted burglary the week prior.

Father shot in home invasion
      A Burke County man was shot when three masked men kicked in the front door of his Bartlett Road home and started firing. Ronnie Mickens, 48, was shot in the thigh and possibly on the hand around 3 a.m. Monday, according to Gary Nicholson, special agent in charge of the Thomson GBI office.

Palmer to be retried in Burke
Trial scheduled for mid-summer
      Jurors in Burke County will be called on for the retrial of a local man convicted for murdering his wife and stepdaughter. At a pre-trial hearing for Willie W. Palmer last week, defense attorney Mike Garrett confirmed that they would not ask to change the location of the trial, which is scheduled to begin July 9.

      The following arrests and citations were reported last week by the Waynesboro Police Department: Wednesday, March 7 + Alex Lorenzo Roberts, 24, of 608 Pecan Chase, Waynesboro, was charged with interference with police, no tag and no driver's license.

      The following arrests were reported last week by the Burke County Sheriff's Office: Sunday, March 11 + Michael Paul Oglesby, 21, of 192 Briar Creek Estates Road, Waynesboro, was arrested for criminal trespass. A $1,300 property bond was posted.

      Post-predicament A Waynesboro man was knocked unconscious during a weekend party at the American Legion post on Highway 80. The 24-year-old victim told Burke County deputies he was attacked by two women and two men who thought he was talking to the girlfriend of one of them.

Arrest made in stabbing
      A Waynesboro man wanted for stabbing his ex-girlfriend has turned himself in. Deputies had been searching for Tony Romon Brown, 34, since last Tuesday when he allegedly held his ex-girlfriend and her three young sons hostage, then stabbed her three times with a steak knife.

Convicted sex offender jailed
      A convicted sex offender was arrested after deputies discovered he wasn't living where he was supposed to. W h e n A d r i a n Hargrove, 29, was released from prison last March, he provided the sheriff's office with a River Road address; however, when officers tried to verify his residency last week, Hargrove couldn't be found.

Lost child is found on Highway 24
      A lost girl was returned home safely Monday with a nearly happy ending. The six-year-old's guardians began searching for her after she got upset with some other children, then went missing. Around 9 p.m., a Waynesboro couple spotted the little girl walking along Highway 24 West with two backpacks and two small dogs in tow.

Shooting captured on video
      A St. Patrick's Day shooting outside Golden Pantry could be a case of self defense. Luke Bunyon Jr., 28, was shot in the thigh just after midnight Saturday. Witnesses told officers he was hit when 25-year-old Anton Smith began randomly firing at them.
