Petitioners gain voice in permit hearing

Groups opposing expansion at Plant Vogtle will have their say at a hearing on possible new reactors. A panel of judges has ruled that five groups, which jointly filed their petition, have a stake in the issue and have a right to be heard at the hearing, according to Scott Burnell, spokesman for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). The Superior Court grand jury recently indicted 28 defendants, including three teenagers accused of serious crimes. Joshua Ellison, 17, was indicted for his alleged role in a Dec. 27 beating near the Social Club in Sardis. According to the original incident report, Ellison and a friend, Deshazier Rouse, were accused of beating a 19-year-old in the face with bricks and beer bottles. More...
