Burke County High School to host TaylorMade/Adidas Invitational
      Golfers from across Georgia will head to the Bird Dog Capitol this weekend for the largest tournament ever hosted by Burke County High School. BCHS will play host to the TaylorMade/Adidas Invitational Golf Tournament Saturday. Some 15 schools plan to compete.

Bears improve to 5-3 on the diamond
      The Bears are hoping for a repeat of last week's performance against Screven County when they face the Gamecocks again today (Wednesday). Burke County High School defeated Screven County 6-2 last Wednesday. One day earlier, the Bears trounced Jefferson County High School 10-0 in five innings.

Applewood to host amateur golf tour
      Applewood Golf Course will play host to the Amateur Golf Tour's debut in the Augusta area March 24. The tour, which provides amateurs an opportunity for competitive stroke-play golf, will host a 10-event local schedule for 2007. The schedule concludes Oct. 6-7 at Goshen Plantation Golf Club in Augusta.

      Joseph Ham serves one up during a doubles match against Richmond Academy last Thursday. The Bears' next match will be against Harlem Monday, March 19, at 4 p.m.

Spartans pick up region win
      The Spartans are continuously improving their game, both on the mound and in the field. Although Edmund Burke Academy fell 12-8 to John Hancock Academy on Friday, March 9, and 16-9 to Briarwood Christian Academy Monday, March 12, they picked up a region win last week, beating out Memorial Day School 10-4 on home turf.

EBA places third in invitational
      Edmund Burke Academy's golf team opened their season with two matches last week, finishing third in the Frederica Academy Invitational on Monday, March 5, and winning over Brentwood Academy Thursday, March 8, at the Waynesboro Country Club. The Spartans will tee off against Briarwood Academy, Thomas Jefferson Academy and Bulloch Academy at the Waynesboro Country Club this Thursday at 1 p.m.

B-team Spartans advance to 5-0
      Edmund Burke Academy's Bteam baseball team picked up three wins this week to improve their record to 5-0. The Spartans defeated Brentwood Academy 18-1, Bulloch Academy 16-1 and Frederica Academy 4-1. DJ Johnson and Michael Weaver led the Spartans against Brentwood, both going 4-4. Jake Evans, Auston Riggs and Alex Sturkie added homeruns in the 16- hit attack.

      Edmund Burke Academy's girls tennis team won their first region match, 4-1, against Trinity Christian School Monday, March 12.

BCHS Winter Sports Awards
      Burke County High School honored winter athletes at a ceremony Thursday evening. Students, parents, coaches and fans attended the event in the school's auditorium and gathered for a reception following the ceremony.

Waynesboro Amateur Field Trials
      The Waynesboro Field Trial Club recently held its first ever amateur field trials, beginning with two special braces just for kids. According to organizers, nine youngsters competed on horseback and ran their own dogs. The two-day event, which was held at Di-Lane Plantation WMA also included a shooting dog classic and club derby.
