      More than 900 drivers were checked during a Highway 56 roadblock Friday afternoon, including two Wadley men who had more than five ounces of cocaine and $2,120 in cash in their pick-up truck.

Three teens hurt in Chappel Road wreck

      Three teenagers were transported to the Medical College of Georgia after their Ford Mustang slammed into a tree off Chappel Road. According to a report filed at the Burke County Sheriff's Office, the teens wrecked around 9 a.m. Tuesday when the driver, 16-year-old Heather Boddiford, ran off the road and struck a tree.

Troopers issue 251 citations and warnings

      Georgia State Patrol troopers from the Sylvania Post investigated five accidents in Burke County last month. According to SFC S.D. Young, those accidents resulted in seven injuries, but no deaths. During the month of February, troopers from Post 21 also issued 116 traffic citations in Burke County.

      Finished business Three Waynesboro women accused of forcing their way into a Hale Street residence and starting a big fight will have 10 days to mull over it. Jill Hughes, Tiffany Hughes Bellamy and Santrewl Hughes were among eight offenders charged in a Feb. 28 melee involving around 50 people, including a number of family members.

      The following arrests were reported last week by the Burke County Sheriff's Office: Monday, March 5 + Bob Lee Sellers Jr., 34, of 10427 Hwy. 23 South, Girard, was arrested by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation on two felony counts of theft by receiving stolen property (Burke County Sheriff's Office cases). A $3,750 property bond was posted.
