Lady Spartans advance to state playoffs
      After two wins during the 2- AA Region tournament last week, Edmund Burke Academy's Lady Spartans took a third place region finish and claimed their spot in the state playoffs.

Spartans end season with a loss
      Basketball season came to an end last week for Edmund Burke Academy's Spartans, who were eliminated from the Region 2- AA tournament by a 48-34 loss to Frederica Academy. They finish the season with a 1-17 record. "The season was a disappointment from the win-loss standpoint," Spartans head coach Todd Layton said, "but these young men improved tremendously throughout the year.

Bears expect success on the diamond this season
      The Burke County High School baseball team hit the diamond last week in preparation for their upcoming season. The Bears are looking for a good year with the return of all four pitchers, according to head coach Todd Booker. "Those guys were a big reason for our success last year," he said. "We're excited about them coming back.

Stephens pins state title
      Burke County wrestler Marcus Stephens claimed the region championship for his 125-lb. class, then followed up last week with a fourth place state win at the Gwinnett Arena - the highest spot ever earned by a Burke County High School wrestler. Teammate Mitchell Davis also pulled in a big win for the team, taking fifth in state for his 135- lb. class.

Basketball camp holds registration
      Registration is now open for the Ten Star All-Star Summer Basketball Camp. Only boys and girls, ages 10-19 are eligible to apply, and the camp is by invitation only. Past participants include Michael Jordan, Tim Duncan and Grant Hill. Last year, players from 50 states and 17 foreign countries attended the camp.
