Local business booms on Valentine's Day
      Valentine's Day means more than love for a few business owners in Waynesboro. It means big bucks. Most of the local florists worked through the night to make sure orders were filled for customers' sweethearts. By midmorning, Pineland Bakery had sold out of the nearly 3,500 heart-shaped cookies they baked for the big day.

DOT to replace bridge, help fund paving
      Burke County roadways continue to see improvements. Last Tuesday night, Burke County Commissioners approved two separate agreements with the DOT (Department of Transportation) - one to replace a problem bridge and the other for paving.

'Rollicking good time'
      An Irish extravaganza is in the making for this Saturday night at the Burke County Office Park. At 7:30 p.m., the Buddy O'Reilly Band will present "Twenty Years of Music & Dance" - a concert featuring Irish music and champion step-dancer Katie Baughman.

Parking lot woes will finally end
      After years of patchwork and months of being closed off, the public parking lot behind Capital City Bank is finally ready for new asphalt. City Administrator Jerry Coalson said the crux of the continuous problems was actually beneath the parking lot - three old sewer systems to which business after business had tied onto over the years.

Resolution signed to honor Harvey
      The memory of Woodrow Harvey was honored last week during the Burke County Commission's regular monthly meeting. A resolution requesting that flags at all county buildings be lowered to half staff for seven days to honor the late commissioner and for all Burke Countians to honor his legacy was signed by the commissioners.

      Once again, the Burke County Chamber of Commerce will join Richmond and Columbia chambers in hosting the Legislative Bar-B-Que Reception at the Georgia Railroad Depot in Atlanta on Tuesday, Feb. 27.

'Girls Night Out' set for March 22
      It's all about good food, fashion and entertainment come Thursday, March 22. That's when the Town and Country Woman's Club will host their "Girls Night Out" at the Burke County Office Park. The evening will include a dinner catered by Cajun Gourmet and entertainment from Steve Chappell, "Elvis." Also, look for local ladies modeling styles from Dillard's in a fashion show.
